Bridger 3DS

Bridger3DS is a revolutionary service designed to empower merchants by offering our in-house 3DS solution.

Introducing Bridger 3DS

Bridger3DS simplifies the authentication process by allowing merchants to use a single authentication result from the issuer across multiple Payment Service Providers (PSPs). This remarkable feature extends its advantages even to retry transactions, as it ensures that merchants only need to present a single 3DS challenge screen, eliminating the hassle of multiple screens for each attempt. This unified approach not only enhances operational efficiency but also significantly improves the approval ratio. By reducing the number of challenges, Bridger3DS offers a smoother experience, benefitting both merchants and customers alike.

What are the benefits?

  • Enhanced User Experience: Implementing 3DS can improve the way customers interact with your website or app. It reduces the need for multiple authentication attempts, making transactions smoother and quicker. This leads to fewer instances of users abandoning their shopping carts, resulting in more successful purchases.
  • Agnostic 3DS Liability Shift: By directly connecting transactions to the issuing bank, Bridger 3DS ensures that in any dispute, the liability shifts to the bank, not the merchant. This provides merchants with protection against financial losses from chargebacks and other issues
  • Increased Approval Rates: By reducing the number of 3D Secure sessions and minimizing friction during the checkout process, your business is more likely to experience successful transactions and approvals. Thereby it can increase your conversion rates and overall revenue.
  • Lower Transaction Costs: Adopting Bridger 3DS as a cost-effective solution for merchants, means you only have to pay a single price for the service, instead of separate commission fees to each Payment Service Provider (PSP).
  • Faster Transaction Time: Bridger 3DS simplifies the checkout process by minimizing the number of 3D Secure sessions required for each transaction. The time taken to complete a purchase is reduced, providing a more efficient shopping experience for customers.
  • Universal Compatibility: Bridger 3DS is compatible with any issuing bank from any country, as well as all six major credit card schemes. It works seamlessly on any device, whether it's a mobile device, a web browser, or a point-of-sale (POS) system, giving you broad accessibility and flexibility.

How does it work?

The operation of Bridger 3DS can be summarized as follows:

  1. Credential Selection: When a payment is initiated, BridgerPay checks for multiple Bridger 3DS credentials in the BridgerPay admin. The system automatically selects the first credential that matches specific criteria:
  • Currency: The currency of the transaction.
  • Country: The customer's country.
  • Card Brand: The type of credit or debit card being used.

This selection ensures that the appropriate Bridger 3DS credential is chosen for the specific transaction.

  1. Authentication Methods: Bridger 3DS supports both Frictionless and 3DS Challenge authentication methods. These methods are used to verify the identity of the cardholder before the actual deposit or payment takes place.
  2. Authentication Process: The authentication process occurs before the deposit or payment is finalized. Bridger 3DS handles this process using the selected credentials when a customer initiates a payment.
  3. Route Selection: Bridger 3DS should be invoked selectively, specifically when Payment Service Providers (PSPs) that support External 3D are involved in the transaction route.
  4. Seamless Experience: A notable advantage of Bridger 3DS is its ability to handle soft declines effectively. If a transaction is authenticated by Bridger 3DS but subsequently gets declined (soft declined), the system automatically switches to the next available PSP that supports Bridger 3DS (if it's part of the transaction route). Importantly, this transition is seamless and doesn't require the customer to re-enter their OTP (One-Time Password). This ensures a smoother and improved user experience, reducing friction in cases where authentication fails initially.

In summary, Bridger 3DS streamlines the 3D Secure authentication process by intelligently selecting the appropriate credentials, supporting various authentication methods, and seamlessly transitioning between PSPs to ensure a secure and user-friendly payment experience.

Before you start

📘

To enable Bridger 3DS on your account and to verify if the requested PSPs are compatible, please reach out to your designated Success Manager. They will guide you through the process of enabling Bridger 3DS and ensure that your chosen PSPs support this integration.

To start using Bridger 3DS, you will need to get the following credentials from their PSP which supports External 3DS functionality for each card brand:

  • Acquirer Merchant Id - a unique code that is given to you by the PSP
  • Acquirer Bin - the bank identification number assigned by the Card brand (the issuer) to the respective acquirer to identify the acquirer during the authorization/clearing and settlement process (usually its 6 digits)
  • Acquirer Merchant Category Code (MCC) - Merchant category codes (MCCs) are four-digit numbers that a credit card issuer uses to categorize the transactions consumers complete using a particular card.
